More When people think of bullying they think of the big guy picking on the little guy, but in most cases the victim is a bully themselves. Bullying will not go away all together, but determining if the situation is actually bullying or not, and standing up to the bully is a great start to decrease bullying in schools. Drama sometimes is difficult to differ from bullying, and it is important to understand the difference. Bystanders need to become involved to start the end of bullying. Also, respect is needed to start to lessen bullying in schools today. Students have difficulties telling the difference between bullying and drama; there is a very fine line between the two. Bullying is continuously putting someone down for no reason.

Students can differ from a drama and a bullying situation by looking at the big picture then go on to playing their roles as bystanders. Bullying isn’t all about the bully and the victim; bystanders play the biggest role in bullying; their actions control what will happen when someone is being bullied. According to Natalie Smith “a recent survey found that when kids witness bullying, they help the victim less than 40 percent of the time”(5). If the bystander or bystanders do nothing when they see or hear someone being bullied they give the victim the idea that nobody cares about them. Bystanders can have a positive impact in these situations; they can help the victim not feel so alone like an outcast, or they can go in the opposite direction and back up the bully and worsen the situation (Walker). When bystanders don’t respond in a positive way bullies will think what they;re doing is okay. For example when a bystander laughs when someone is being bullied it gives the bully the attention they crave and adds fuel to the fire.
