Indians Love to Read
Indians mostly love reading romantic novels, mythology retold according to the present generation, writings of famous people like Nandan Nilekani, Amartya Sen, Sashi Tharoor amd also biographies of famous personalities. Also stories that strike a chord with everyday life like Narcopolis, the Last Man in Tower, the White Tiger, The Malgudi Days are all loved and revered.Indians are voracious readers as well as timepass readers but almost everyone has atleast one book that they read at any point of time.My favourite authors who have written page turners are Amish Tripati, Devadutt Patnaik, Ashwin Sanghi, Aravind Adiga, Jumpha Lahari, among others.
Indians love stories that are interesting, thrilling, love stories, even narrate a daily scene and they will love and all depends on the narration style. If you have read Ashwin Sanghi's Chanakya's Chant or Aravind Adiga's The White Tiger, you will see the vast difference in their writing styles but both are interesting.
So basically it is difficult to say what genre exactly but I strongly believe any story or incident told in a interesting manner will make Indians go for it.We have read the Harry Potter to the Satanic verses. It all depends on how you tell us the story.
If you want to know the genre then I would say Romance, Mythology, Biogarphy/Autobiography, Fiction(mostly everyday events and circumstances retold), Thrillers et al.

Reading, a dynamic skill is quite popular in India. India is a land of knowledge seekers. Most of the people are in search of truth, self-improvement, and enlightenment. According to a survey done 83.4% of all the literate people in India love to read books in their leisure time.
Every year millions of books are sold in India; this is a healthy indicator of Indians’ reading habit. Apart from all-time best sellers and classics, all types of genres are read avidly in this country.
Undoubtedly, this reading habit has improved Indians in many ways. They are admired throughout the world for their love of knowledge.
