With more than 28% youth, India has the world’s largest youth population. Today, the Indian education system is ideal for the academic growth of the youth, but one cannot deny the fact that our education system is yet to develop its focus on the vocational education and training. So, what does a vocation means altogether? Is academic education the only way to a successful career? No, it is certainly not. If you just look around, there are thousands of such jobs, which are beyond the domain of academic education in India, so to recognize them socially as well as help them grow economically, the only way out is “Vocational education”.

Befo

Let us now talk about the ground realities which provoke the need of vocalization of education. Firstly, it is not accessible for the rural students to afford the education that usually is available for the students in the towns. Given the poor infrastructure of the rural schools and colleges, caste factor, issue of transport, and many other such factors, the education for the rural students is not so feasible. Even if they get the school education, the higher education always remains a far cry due to the financial strain that their families undergo. Under all these circumstances, the best solution is to provide vocational education and training after their school education. Rather, we should follow the models of Japanese education, wherein, the vocational education starts at the school level itself under the category of elective subjects from areas like agriculture, commerce, fishery etc..

India has a lot of options as well as resources for the incorporation of the vocational education within the basic education. According to the report of World Bank in 2008, India owns 6800 schools, majorly the government schools, which have enrolled 400,000 students under the vocational education scheme. Surprisingly, this figure indicates that presently just 40% of the available student capacity of these institutions is being utilized. These schools offer more than 100 vocational courses in fields like agriculture, humanities, engineering and technology, home science, business and commerce, and many more. If this amount is practically put to use, it can do wonders for our youth.

As regards the fields to promote vocational education, there are dissimilar options. Broadly the areas include hospitality industry, plumbing systems, librarian, lab technician, electrician, refrigeration and air conditioning, and many more. Let us take an example of the beauty and personal care industry. Today, women are so conscious and are actually willing to spend upon their upkeep that the industry is only set to grow by leaps and bounds. Given the higher rate of financially independent women now-a-days, it is very much feasible for them to avail these services. Accordingly, there is a greater need for the trained professionals in this sector which in turn calls for the vocational training to be provided to the people who wish to join this industry. In the rural areas, the issue of safety of girls hinders their higher academic education and also because of the lack of guidance and motivation at homes, many girls are not interested in further education. In that case, giving them such vocational training will give a boost to the industry with skilled manpower and for these rural girls, it would mean having their own identity and financial independence.

Though, the government is making serious efforts and taking up new initiatives, besides if the corporate sector too offers a helping hand, the target would be accomplished sooner and better. The corporate world needs to realize its CSR and give its best. That will be the biggest economical support in empowering youth. But, even the financial corporation is alone not sufficient. For the full incorporation of vocational education, the change has to come initially at the grass root level. In the Indian society, the academic education is prevalent while the idea of vocational education is reserved only for those who are either underperformers in academic education or those who belong to the economically lower classes. Answer:

Greetings and Salutation!

Vocational education, also known as career or technical training, is the preparation given to learners, traditionally non-academic, and related to a specific trade or vocation preparing learners for jobs based on manual or practical activities. Instructional programs and courses focusing on the skills given for a particular job, function, or trade is vocational training. Hand on job specifications, certification, and job-specific instruction are provided in vocational education.

Historically vocational education was given in a classroom or job sight, with instructors and established professionals teaching students trade theory and trade skills. However, in recent years online vocational education has gained popularity. This has made learning different kinds of trade skills and soft skills from experienced professionals easier than ever for students.

In India, the economy is growing at a rate of more than 7% every year. According to records, in order to support the 24 key sectors of the economy, it has been estimated that around 119 million skilled workers have been generated. To excel in a particular job role or skill, students are given vocational training.
