Step-by-step explanation:

1) Let Mark's age be x years.

Then, Lucas's age will be = 2*x = 2x.

According to the question,

2x + x = 24

→ 3x = 24

→ x = 24/3

→ x = 8

Therefore,

Mark's age = 8 years

Lucas's age = 2 x 8 years

= 16 years.

Ans:- Mark's age is 8 years and Lucas's age is 16 years.

2) Let Jared solved x problems.

Then, Paul solved = x + 7 problems.

According to the question,

(x+7)+x = 55

→2x + 7 = 55

→2x = 55 - 7

→ 2x = 48

→ x = 48/2

→ x = 24

Therefore,

Jared worked 24 problems.

Paul worked 24 + 7 = 31 problems

Ans:- Jared worked 24 problems and Paul worked 31 problems.
