When plaster of paris reacts with water it produce gypsum as shown in the photo

Hey Dear,

Formula for Plaster of Paris is CaSO4.½H2O.

◆ Preparation of Plaster of Paris -

Plaster of paris is prepared by adding water to gypsum.

CaSO4.2H2O + ∆ --> CaSO4.½H2O + 3/2 H2O

Reaction of Plaster of Paris with water -

When Plaster of Paris is mixed with water, it becomes absolutely hard after some time due to formation of gypsum.

CaSO4.½H2O + 3/2 H2O --> CaSO4.2H2O
