Once play is suspended in the middle of the rain, obviously it will have to be resumed at the earliest. Matches delayed due to heavy rain might be played next day, as there is a reserve day for the finals. But this is not the case with Wimbledon, or any other court which has retractable roof (play resumes once the roof is closed and all things settled). This happens within a span of 15 -20 minutes. The roof at Wimbledon takes 7 minutes to shut completely.

Now, if there is a delay in the match, not only because of rain or any other factor (washroom or injury breaks, Australia day celebration break for fire crackers), the players are not allowed to meet or communicate with anyone. You can always see that one of the line umpires accompanying the players if they leave the court in the middle of the match. They sit in the player’s locker room alone. Once its decided that the match will be continued next day, only then the players can meet their coach, or support staff or any other person.

Note: Match time does not count any delay in time. The clock is stopped for any breaks.

This are the rules of the game. Not sure if they have updated it now.
