Living a life without technology is really difficult especially if your whole life revolves around it, like mine. We all live by our smartphones having numerous notifications like calls, texts, or the numerous social media notifications. But what happens when you're unable to be heavily attached to social media?
Your technology withdrawal will be harsh, trust me you will miss all those irrelevant spam emails you were once able to check but now you have to deal with not having a phone or being prevented from using the Internet because no available Wi-Fi connections. For about a month, I limited my access to social media, human interactions and the readily accessibility of having the internet were no longer in the palm of my hands.
What I realized is that it's difficult to live without a cell phone. I almost had this feeling as if I was disconnected from the world, even though I was still being just as interactive and productive without technology at my hands. I've explored my surroundings and become more engaged with my environment. Now I appreciate walks around the neighborhood, unable to avoid being intrusive in other people's conversations.
There are many issues that Millennials will face with the high usage of technology. Firstly, they will lack mechanical skills. We lack communication skills, it's always easier to send a text message, but a phone call conversation would always convey a person's feelings more sufficiently. Do you really need a Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook? No, and it's OK because social media can be hectic, especially if you let your time waste away for numerous hours of scrolling, liking posts and uploading snaps. It's distracting when you're trying to type a ten page essay and your phone keeps alerting you with tons of notifications.
