"The First Time I Cooked"
It was a Sunday morning. Mum was down with fever and Dad had some important meeting that day. Amy was playing with her favourite doll and the entire responsibility of cooking and taking care of the house was on me. I didn't mind taking care of the house and Amy but cooking was something I cannot resist. Being a foodie, people often ask me why I hate cooking. My honest reply would be, "I really don't know how to cook!"
Keeping aside that...
Mum gave a cookbook and selected an easy dish for me for lunch. She selected a typical Thai rice noodles recipe and rice balls. I started with chopping the onions, lettuce, celery and everything that lay nearby. Amy helped me a lot in washing the veggies. The most important thing was that I didn't know how to switch on the gas. Perhaps I knew but I was too scared to do so. Somehow me and Amy together we did it! Inside the pan went all sorts if veggies, rice noodles and spices. It was actually fun to cook with Amy. But how can one forget that whenever me and Amy are together it's always the recipe for disaster. The flame was too high and we didn't even notice! We were busy daydreaming about the rewards mum would give us for cooking the lunch. Unfortunately it was mum who enlightened us that something was burning. Our entire hardworking got wasted! And the blame game began between me and Amy. I could see Mum closing the door behind us. For ten minutes it continued but finally we realised that we need to cook at least something for lunch. We quickly put the rice in the steamer and waited for it to steam. On the other hand we were preparing a simple mushroom curry. Rice and mushroom curry - something that would be avoided by even prisoners. If there were vegetables left we could have cooked it but all of them have burnt. Soon our cooking was over and surprisingly it turned out to be alright. We never expected to be fantastic or something sumptuous but at least it wasn't inedible. We had our lunch and mum actually patted on our shoulders for cooking at least 'something'. So that way ends my first cooking experience :D
After that I have cooked numerous times. Though in 70% cases I failed, 30% dishes were shockingly pretty yummy. Amy too has improved. What about those burnt dishes? xD Well, we just threw them away =_= nothing can be done else. I just can't probably feed my Elza that!
Hope this helps...!!
