India is a country of festivals and Diwali is the biggest festival celebrated by Hindus in India. This festival is celebrated in the Hindu month of Kartik Amavasya which falls/comes sometime during October or November. Due to the special festival of “Deepes”, it has been named Deepawali and Diwali. Deepawali means that the line of lamps.
A big reason behind celebrating Diwali festival is that after getting a big victory over the demon King Ravana of Lanka, Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile with Sita and Lakshman. In the joy of their victory and arrival, Ayodhya people lighted the whole city with ghee lamp. That’s why Diwali is celebrated as a symbol of victory of goodness over the badness. From that day onwards, every year, Indians celebrate their heartfelt joy by lightening a lamp and expressing their happiness by feeding each other with sweets.
A few days before Diwali, the house, shop, and office are cleaned because it is believed that Lakshmi Mata comes thereafter keeping clean in the house, shop, and office on Diwali day. On this day all the people buy gifts, sweets, crackers and new clothes from the market.
People worship the Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh after the sunset according to the Hindu calendar. After the completion of the worship, they share the gifts with each other and wish their happiness and the happiness of others. After worshipping in the evening, they decorate the houses with lamps. In the end, members of the house celebrate Diwali by burning firecrackers.
Diwali is an important festival for everyone because it gives people happiness and blessings. On this day people leave bad habits and adopt good habits. This starts a new season with the victory of good over evil in Diwali. Diwali is a favourite festival for all Indians.
