When an acid reacts with metal, salt and hydrogen gas are produced. Zinc powder reacts with hydrochloric acid that releasesH2 gas and zinc chloride. ... Metals react with dilute hydrochloric acid to form the corresponding chloride salt and hydrogen which is evolved as bubbles.

To prove acid reacts with metal.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:Test tube, zinc granules, dilute HCl,delivery tube glass through candle soap water.

PROCEDURE:Take 20ml of diluteHCl and add zinc to it then the gas being evolved is passed through soap water .Bring a burning candle near gas filled babble you will notice the gas involved with a pop-sound concluding it has hydrogen.

Hope it helps...
