and this force is minimum when the magnetic field and and velocity of charge particle is in the same direction..

We have to write

  1. a) an expression for the force experienced by a charged particle moving a uniform magnetic field.
  2. b) under what condition this force is maximum.

a) Let a charge q is moving with a speed v at an angle Ф with the uniform magnetic field B.

We know, magnetic force, F = q(v × B)

= q(|v||B|sinФ)

= BqvsinФ

Therefore the expression for the force experienced by a charge particle moving in a uniform magnetic field is given by, F = BqvsinФ.

b) The value of the force depends upon the sine of angle between the velocity of the charged particle and the magnetic field.

i.e., F ∝ sinФ

And we know, the maxium value of sinФ is always 1.

sinФ = 1 = sin90° then force experienced in the magnetic field is maximum.

Therefore The force experienced by a charged particle moving in a uniform magnetic field only when the angle between the velocity of the charged particle and magnetic field is 90°.
