The period between 1925 and 1930 witnessed the dawn of political awakening in Kashmir. The Kashmiri people had founded an organisation called “The All India Kashmiri Muslim Conference” which started functioning from Lahore, then the capital of Punjab. It offered scholarships to poor Muslim Students from Kashmir, eager of achieving higher and technical education in India. They went to the universities in Britain India for their higher education. They founded a “Reading Room Group” in 1930, where lengthy discussions used to take place on how the grievances of the people of the Valley could be redressed. In that atmosphere of toil and sufferings, the “Reading Room Group” guided the people, thereby “enhancing their interest in politics”.
