  1. Nutrition is defined as the processes by which an animal or plant takes in and utilises food substances. Essential nutrients include protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. Normally, 85% of daily energy use is from fat and carbohydrates and 15% from protein.
  2. Food provides our bodies with what they need to:
  • stay alive, be active, move and work;
  • build new cells and tissues for growth;
  • stay healthy and heal themselves;
  • prevent and fight infections.
  1. Test the food item with a few drops of iodine solution on the food sample and observe. We can see that the part of food with iodine solution turns to a blue-black color. A blue-black color indicates the presence of starch.
