Narayan Guru was against caste system. He expressed strong aversion toward the caste discrimination that existed in society and often criticised his own relatives for showing such tendencies. He led a reform movement in Kerala by rejecting the caste system and promoting new values of spiritual freedom, social equality and upliftment of the downtrodden.

Consecration of a Hindu temple was the exclusive right of Brahmins. Sree Narayana threw a challenge on this domination. As the first revolutionary step, he himself consecrated a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Aruvippuram in 1888.
