The main characteristic of commercial farming are as follows— (i) the USE of high doses of MODERN INPUTS, like high yielding variety {HYV} seeds, fertilisers, insecticides and pesticides FOR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY. (ii) The DEGREE OF COMMERCIALISATION of agriculture varies from one region to another. Rice is a commercial crop of Punjab and Haryana but a subsistence crop in Odisha. (iii) PLANTATION is one of the most common types of commercial farming where a single crop is grown on a large area. (iv) Plantations cover large areas using CAPITAL INTENSIVE inputs with the help of migrant labourers. (v) Since this farming method is purely done for the sake of profits, SCIENTIFIC APPROACH is undertaken FOR the BETTERMENT OF THE CROPS. [Examples] In India, tea, coffee, rubber, sugarcane, banana are important plantation crops.
