Write the definitions of the following with there examples.
- Polygon
- Triangle
- Parallel lines
- Open and closed Curves
- Ray and properties of ray
1. What is a Polygon ?
- A Polygon is a closed figure made up of line segments (not curves) in a two-dimensional plane.
- Polygon is the combination of two words, i.e. poly (means many) and gon (means sides).
- Example :- Triangle, Square, Rectangle etc.
2. What is a triangle ?
- A triangle is the simplest form of polygon that has three sides and three vertices.
- The triangles are also classified into different types, based on the sides and angles.
- In Triangles sum of all the angles of the triangle is always equal to 180°.
- Types of Triangle :- Equilateral triangle, Isosceles triangle and Scalene triangle
3. What are Parallel Lines ?
- Two lines are said to be parallel when they do not meet at any point in a plane.
- Lines which do not have a common intersection point and never cross path with each other are parallel to each other.
- The symbol for showing parallel lines is ||.
- Example :- Railway Track, Scale, Edges of sidewalks etc.
4. What is Open and Closed Curves ?
Open Curve :-
- A curve has two endpoints, and when it does not enclose the area within itself it is known as an open curve.
- Example :- Any figure made without Line segment.
Close Curve :-
- A curve has no endpoints, and when it encloses the region or area will form, it is known as the closed curve.
- The type of curve is formed by joining the two endpoints of the open curve.
- Example :- Circle, Oval, Ellipses etc.
5. What is Ray and Properties of Ray ?
Ray :-
- Ray is another part of a line. It is a combination of a line and a line segment which has an infinitely extending end and one terminating end.
- As it’s one end is non-terminating, its length cannot be measured.
- Example :- Sun-light, Troch-Light etc.
Properties of Ray :-
- The ray have only one starting point,
- A Ray can't be measured.
