The differences between Microprocessors and Micro controllers are as follows:

1) Microprocessor:

  • It is the heart of the computer system and is mainly called the CPU.
  • It doesn't contains chips and I/O ports, Timers, etc.
  • Microprocessor circuit is large since external connection to ports etc are made.
  • It is relatively slower since external wiring is made.
  • Are based on Von Neuman Architecture.
  • It is mainly used in making computers

2) Micro controllers:

  • It is the heart of embedded systems.
  • It contains internal ports and timers, etc.
  • The circuit is comparatively smaller as everything is embedded into one chip.
  • The micro controller is relatively faster.
  • It is based on the harvard architecture
  • Its is mainly used to make small devices like MP3 Players, etc,
