The differences between Microprocessors and Micro controllers are as follows:
1) Microprocessor:
- It is the heart of the computer system and is mainly called the CPU.
- It doesn't contains chips and I/O ports, Timers, etc.
- Microprocessor circuit is large since external connection to ports etc are made.
- It is relatively slower since external wiring is made.
- Are based on Von Neuman Architecture.
- It is mainly used in making computers
2) Micro controllers:
- It is the heart of embedded systems.
- It contains internal ports and timers, etc.
- The circuit is comparatively smaller as everything is embedded into one chip.
- The micro controller is relatively faster.
- It is based on the harvard architecture
- Its is mainly used to make small devices like MP3 Players, etc,
