Advantages of Modulator

Explanation:

• There are basically two varieties of modulators: bulk and integrated-optic. Bulk modulators are made out of discrete pieces of nonlinear optical crystals and are typically used on a bench or an optical table.
• Integrated-optic modulators, which can not be discussed here, use waveguide technology to lower the specified drive voltages, are wavelength specific.
• Electro-optic amplitude and phase modulators correct the amplifications.  Unlike direct modulation of the laser itself, external modulators don't cause any degrading effects on laser linewidth and stability.
• In measurement systems, amplitude modulators will be used as actuators to carry the intensity in a very shaft of light constant, or as optical choppers to supply a pulse stream from a CW shaft. Phase modulators are accustomed stabilize the frequency of a irradiation, or to mode-lock a laser.
