write any three dissimilarities between Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha with respect to their composition
Answers
As our parliament is bicameral, it has two seperate chambers or houses, i.e. Lok Sabha (Lower House) & Rajya Sabha (Upper house). Briefly, we can distinguish them by saying, Lok Sabha is the sabha of our (peoples’) representatives and Rajya Sabha is the sabha of the representatives of our states.
Differences
Qualification: To contest Lok Sabha election, one should have minimum age not less than 25 yrs and 30 years in case of Rajya Sabha.
Presiding Officer: Speaker of Lok Sabha presides over the house, and The Vice President of India who is also the Chairman of Rajya Sabha presides over Rajya Sabha.
Number of Seats: Maximum alloted sits in Lok Sabha is 552 (530 from states, 20 from UTs & 2 Anglo Indians). Presently, this chamber has 545 seats (530 + 13 elected from states & UTs and 2 nominated from amongst the Anglo Indian communities by the president). Rajya Sabha can have 250 seats but now it has 245 members (250 - 245 = 5 for POK region) out of which 12 are nominated by the president.
Terms of Office: 5 years for Lok Sabha, but can be dissolved earlier or extended for one year subject to confidence or state emergency. In case of Rajya Sabha an MP will sit for 6 years.
Subject to Dissolution: If Lok Sabha is not dissolved before completion of 5 years subject to confidence and is not extended due to state emergency, it will automatically get dissolved on completion of 5 years. Whereas RS, being permanent chamber, is not subject to dissolution.
