The following are the similarities in the views of Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore on education:

1. Both considered practical knowledge; that enables children to do some inventive activity through arts and crafts thus, children must be permitted to acquire knowledge outside the rigidities of books, regulation as installed by the British.

2. Both concluded that learning must produce holistic improvement of a child's personality.

Both Tagore and Ghandhi-ji believed in basic education although their approach was quite different. However both of them wanted to emphasis on agricultural education and they believed in old gurukul type educational system.

Both of them wanted to model the education system in the pattern of ancient India’s method of imparting education. Rabindranath Thakur was not against western education whereas Ghandhiji insisted on swadeshi education or buniadi education.
