Explanation:

Athletes who compete in hurdle races need a sprinter’s speed as well as the technical ability to clear the hurdles. Runners typically take seven to eight strides before hurdle one, then use a three-stride pattern between the rest, according to Brian Mac, performance coach for UK Athletics. The trailing leg, which initially drives a runner’s body at the hurdle, also must sweep over the hurdle rather than around it. The International Association of Athletics Federations is the worldwide governing body for track and field events, including hurdles. Associations at the national, state and local level generally follow IAFF rules, though modifications

Athletes competing in hurdle races must be able to clear the hurdles, as well as require a sprinter's speed. Runners usually take 7 to 8 steps before they hurdle one and use a 3-step method between the rest . The trailing leg, which initially drives a runner’s body at the hurdle, also must sweep over the hurdle rather than around it

Explanation:

The placement of the hurdles is based on the athlete's race length and gender. Ten hurdles are used in the hurdle races of 100 mtrs, 110mtrs  and 400 meters

  • Runners who hit a hurdle intentionally are disqualified by the IAAF rules. Runners who unintentionally knock over a barrier are not discharged. It is left to the decision of the referee is whether the hurdle has been deliberately removed. Now that a runner knocks a hurdle down with his/her hand, he/she is disqualified by the NFHS rules. Under the former law, a hurdle deliberately knocked down by a runner’s foot resulted in disqualification, as well.
  • Runners must try to clear each obstacle at all levels of competition. A hurdler racing around an hurdle  is disqualified immediately. Runners who trail a foot or a leg below the horizontal plane of the hurdle’s top at the moment of clearance also are disqualified, in accordance  to IAAF rules. The international organisation’s rules also require runners to stay in their own lane throughout the race.
