Introduction:  “Speak for Those Who Can’t” The Effects of Animal Abuse

Most of us have beloved pets that we consider family and would never think about harming.  Although many Americans abuse their pets.  Many of us find this very upsetting, but we may become hypocrites when we turn the cheek to animal violence and testing on animals.  If animals could talk what do think they would say? What about the one that are beaten or neglected and tested on I’m sure they would have something to say, but they can’t so why not be their voice and say what they cannot.  My paper is about animal abuse and its violence effects it has on helpless animals.

Animal abuse can happen in many different forms. There is animal testing and animal abuse has been found to be linked to domestic violence. Some studies have shown that animal abuse has been linked to childhood experiences. Animals can be neglected by owners or shelter workers.  Animal testing has been found to not be an appropriate way to test human products the affect the product has on a rat for example won’t have the same effect on humans.  And also the expenses are increasingly growing.

Some people disagree on the thought of helping animals because they don’t see the harm because they don’t think animals can feel and they would rather test on animals than on humans. I agree that we should not test on humans but in this day and age think that we could find and alternative nonviolent way of testing where no one is harmed.  People should care because we shouldn't be causing unnecessary pain and harm and just overall discomfort to a poor innocent animal that cannot fight back for themselves.  The implications that I have drawn is that we need to get more people on board and show them how this is all very wrong and violent. And find nonviolent alternatives for animal testing. There are many organizations  like PETA, and ASPCA now that are working towards bettering the issue but we need to work more towards the outcome we want to decrease the violence. Animal abuse can come in many forms whether its experimental testing, training animals to fight other animals, and abusing and neglecting the animal, no matter the way it’s still a violent and vicious act that shouldn't be happening, and there are ways for it to not happen.

Conclusion:

I feel that there are many other alternatives to animal testing that are safer more reliable and will be overall cheaper.  Animal abuse and neglect can be stopped and reduced if there is something done when it is first occurring and if it is treated at a young age. As far as the shelters go I feel that the only options we have to better those are to get rid of them and try to shut down the shelters that are harmful to the animals and are not trying to help the injured and homeless animals survive.
