This is just a (very) short list:

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at home, work and stores use an air filter to remove particles and sometimes odors/chemicals.

Your car contains filters for the fuel, air (both for the engine and the passengers), transmission fluid and possibly more.

The water you drink is almost certainly filtered to remove particles, chemicals, heavy metals and more.

In your body, the kidneys, liver, and lungs are the most obvious. You could also list the digestive systems, which remove nutrients and water from food. I'm sure there are more examples like that.

In a more abstract sense, filters are used in your computer/phone/tablet, to improve your search results.

Most of us also use filters when we communicate with other people. That is, we may think about saying something snarky to our boss/spouse/kids, but we typically select something appropriate to the relationship.

hope this helps you
