Ethanol with a large quantity of excess concentrated sulphuric acid on heating produces ethene.
ethanol >>> ethylene + water acid protonates the OH, this leaves as water, and the acid is regenerated by taking a proton form the carbon next to the one that had the OH on it. The electrons that were on this H are used to make the double bond.
CH3-CH2-OH → (H2SO4 + heat) → CH2=CH2 + H2O
or
production of diethyl ether was by the dehydration of ethanol by conc H2SO4
2C2H5OH → H2SO4) → C2H5 - O - H5C2 + H2O
