He has become the first Indian player to win a gold medal in the individual event of the Beijing Olympic Games on 11 August 2007. After scoring 594 points in the qualifying match, Bindra showed tremendous mental concentration and scored 104.5 in the final round. He succeeded in aiming for gold with a total score of 400.5. Bindra had finished fourth in the qualifying match, while his contestant Gagan Narang missed the finals by a very close margin. He finished ninth.
