Photosynthesis occurs in the green parts of the plants, chiefly leaves.

The product of photosynthesis are oxygen and soluble sugars.  Sugars are the main source of energy.

6CO₂ + 6H₂O --- (in the presence of sunlight) ---> C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

As the non-photosynthetic plant parts also require nutrients for their growth and energy, they are transported from the leaves to all other parts by means of specialized connected vascular tissue called phloem.

This process is called translocation.
