The history of the park as a protected area dates back to 1904 after the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon's wife visited the premises. She was not able to see a single rhinoceros in the area that was supposed to be known for. She persuaded Lord Curzon to take measures to protect the animal facing threat of extinction.
