there are mainly two island groups in India. The Lakshadweep islands which are located to south west of India in the Indian Ocean . The Lakshadweep islands cover a small area of 32 sq. km. Kavaratti island is the administrative headquarters of Lakshadweep.

they are a chain of islands extended in Bay of Bengal
they lie close to the equator and experience equatorial climate and thick forest cover
