• The narrator, Frederick Forsyth himself was the pilot. He is flying from Paris to London. The narrator loves his family as while he was flying he was dreaming of spending his holidays with his family. He also was excited about the much awaited English breakfast that he would have when he reached London. In the eagerness of meeting his family & having an English breakfast he took a wrong decision of flying through the storm clouds even though he had less fuel.when he flew into the storm clouds as expected it was suddenly black,he could not see anything ,his compass, radio and other instruments broke down too ,by this we can say that he was brave yet foolish. He was patient & courageous ,he did not lose hope when he saw a mysterious black aeroplane willing to help him, he followed it like an obedient child. He lands safely. The mysterious black aeroplane puzzles him but he was grateful to the piolet who had helped him and wanted to thank him.A possibility could be that it was the narrators own expertise & conscience that had made him get out of the storm.

The character sketch of the narrator pilot is as follows:

Frederick Forsyth, the narrator, was the pilot. He was a brave and valiant man who loved his family. He had only gone a few kilometres when he noticed dark, threatening clouds; flying through them was risky, but he was desperate to see his family, so he accepted the chance. His flying instruments ceased operating inside the clouds, as expected. He had gone missing, and his life was in danger. A black aeroplane materialised miraculously in the skies and guided him to a safe landing. He was indebted to the black aeroplane's pilot and raced to the air traffic control office to learn more about the pilot who had saved his life. He was astounded to learn that he was the only plane flying that night. Even angels were willing to assist him in his distress, thus he must have been a really fortunate and good human being.
