Rabindranath Tagore (1861 – 1941) was a Bengali artist, musician, writer and poet whose works are famous throughout the world. Most of his poetry and songs are known for their patriotic fervour and love for his motherland.  

He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.

Rabindranath Tagore wrote the short story ‘Kabuliwala’ in 1892. It is the story of a Pashtun merchant (Kabuliwala) who comes to Calcutta and forms a bond of friendship, with a five-year old girl called Mini. Mini hails from a middle-class family and reminds the Kabuliwala of his daughter in Afghanistan.
