General elections and bye-elections

Explanation:

General elections

The members of the Lok Sabha are elected by voting  by all the adult citizens. These adult citizens choose and vote from  a lot of candidates contesting in their constituency. The candidates after winning the elections are called members of Parliament. they remain in power for a period of 5 years until it is dissolved by the President on the recommendations of the council of ministers . Elections are held after every 5 years to elect its 545 members.

Bye- elections

Bye -elections are held to fill a political office that has become vacant between general elections. If the occupant dies or resigns or becomes ineligible to continue in office.
