The duodenum receives food which is partially digested called 'chyme' from the stomach. The duodenum is responsible for chemical digestion of chyme.

EXPLANATION:

The duodenum is the 'first' and the 'smallest segment' of small intestine that makes the food ready for absorption by the small intestine. The various digestive juices secreted by liver pancreas and gallbladder mix with the 'partially digested food' in the duodenum.  The food is then broken down into chemically digestible material.
