Man has discovered the evolution of life, he has begun to conquer space, he has invented life saving medicines, he can clone life now at the same time he can destroy life. Through the atom bomb he has silenced humanity, his nuclear weapons have pierced an unrepairable hole in the ozone later, his plastics have ushered in the deluge. He has achieved all this through one weapon and that is Science.
Such is the nature of science. It is a complete blend of the good and the evil. Like humans, who have an angel and a beast dwelling within, science too can be our slave and our master.
Science is the Frankenstein we have created. If put it to good use it can work wonders. Electricity, communication, media are all contributions of science. But when not properly used it is like the Frankenstein monster ready to destroy its creator. Thus for science we may use the oxymoron -the necessary evil. We must really be cautious and conscious while using science. We must never allow it to be our master. We must master it ethically.
