coastal plains can form in two basic ways.
some start as a continental shelf,a flat peice of land located below the sea level. When the ocean level falls,the land is exposed, creating a COASTAL PLAIN.

Flat, low-lying land adjacent to sea coast and separated from the interior land by well-defined features are called Coastal Plains.

They are usually formed when large expanse of flat sea bed is exposed as a result of falling sea level. The Eastern Coastal Plain in India, between Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal is an example.

 

The wetlands of coastal plains are home to migratory birds and other wildlife.
