Waterways:
- Waterways are an important mode of transport for both passenger and cargo traffic in India.
- It is the cheapest means of transport and is most suitable for carrying heavy and bulky material.
- It is a fuel-efficient and eco-friendly mode of transport
- Nearly 87% of the country's produced goods is transported through waterways
- Example: Fishes ,which are mainly exported by coastal countries and imported by some non fishing country. In this the only way that the fishes could be imported is through waterways which is much easier and inexpensive.
Roadways:
- The major advantage of road transport is that it can enable door-to-door delivery of goods and materials and can provide a very cost-effective means of cartage, loading and unloading.
- The cost of laying road is very inexpensive, but the cost of fueling the vehicle is high.
- Roadways connect different parts of country which are even in high altitudes, desert regions and forest areas.
- It's a little expensive in transporting bulk goods.
- The goods cannot be transported to overseas country through roadways
