Some features of arid soils are given

below:-

1. It lacks humus and moisture due to dry

climate, high temperature and faster rate of

evaporation.

2. In some area common salt is obtained in this

soil due to evaporation of water.

3. It can be useful for cultivation only with

suitable irrigation methods and is useful for

growing barely, wheat cotton, maize millets and

pulses.

4. This soil is found in Western parts of

Rajasthan, Northern Gujrat and Southern parts

of Haryana.

5. In the lower horizons of this soil kankar are

found due to increasing calcium content

downwards, which restrict the infiltration of

water.

6. After proper irrigation, these soil can become

cultivable e.g. Ganganagar district of Western

Rajasthan.
