Principle clause is nothing but independent sentence that makes complete sense. Subordinate clause means dependent clause which is incomplete. Example:While walking in the park , I found a purse.

A Principal Clause is an independent clause which can exist even without a subordinate clause. A Subordinate Clause is called a dependent clause because it cannot exist without the help of the principal clause.

Examples :

1) I don't know where he lives.

2)He has lost the pen that I had given him.
