Functions of blood in Periplaneta:
Periplaneta americana is the common cockroach that we see nowadays. These cockroaches do have an open circulatory system, i.e. the blood does come in direct contact of the body cells. Their blood doesn’t contain hemoglobin and so, doesn’t look red like ours. But, their blood has some important functions like –
- Their blood transports the respiratory gases from and through the cells
- Their blood transports nutrition to the cells.
- Their blood transports excretory materials for excretion.
