guitar is generally played by the vibrations caused by the movement of fingers ....
but violin is played by rubbing the stick containing another set of strings with strings of violin....

The basic difference in playing them is : A violin is played by drawing a resined bow across the strings to create a long, ringing, single note. Also, a violin is played by placing it under the player's chin and supported on the player's shoulder. Guitars are usually strummed or picked.
