Acid Rain occurs when the pH of the rainwater is below 5.5

It corrodes buildings and affects living organisms and plants.

When industrial effluents containing hazardous chemical mix with condensing water vapour ,acid rain is caused.These effuents may be automobile exhausts or coal-burning power plant flue gases which contain a lot of sulpher dioxide.Acid rain results in acidification of lakes and rivers ,damage to high altitude trees and the sensitive forests soils.Besides ,it also damages monuments ,sulptures ,etc. that are our cultural heritage.
