The biogas plant receives all kinds of organic waste - typically livestock manure and organic industrial waste. The dry solid in livestock manure contains carbon, among other things, and in the process this carbon is transformed into biogas, a compound of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

The manure and waste are mixed in the plant's receiving tank before being heated to 38-52°C/100-125.6°F and pumped into the digester in which the biogas is produced. The biomass stays in the digester for 2-3 weeks and the fermented slurry can subsequently be used as crop fertilizer. This fertilizer has improved qualities such as less odour inconveniences when spreading the slurry and significant reduction of green house gasses.

what is a biogas?

IT IS NOT A SIGLE GAS .IT IS A MIXTURE OF GASES .BIOGAS IT IS A MIXTURE OF METHANE , CARBON DIOXIDE , HYDROGEN, AND HYDROGEN SULPHIDE. WHICH IS EXTREMELY GOOD FUEL . IN FACT BIOGAS CONTAINS UP TO 75 PERCENT OF METHANE GAS WHICH MAKES IT AN EXCELLENT FUEL .BIOGAS IS PRODUCED BY THE ANAEROBIC DEGRADATION OF ANIMAL WASTES LIKE COW - DUNG ( OR PLANT WASTES) IN THE PRESENCE OF WATER.THIS DEGRADATION IS CARRIED OUT BY ANAEROBIC MICROORGANISMS CALLED ANAEROBIC BACTERIA IN THE PRESENCE OF WATER BUT IN THE ABSENCE OF OXYGEN.

COW - DUNG AND PLANT WASTES CONTAIN A LOT OF COMPLEX CARBON COMPOUND.like CARBOHYDRATES , PROTEINS AND FATS . THE ANAEROBIC BACTERIA DEGRADE ( DECOMPOSE) THESE CARBON COMPOUNDS.TO FORM METHANE GAS. WHICH IS THE MAIN CONSTITUENT OF GAS.

APPLICATION OF USES OF BIOGAS:-

BIOGAS IS USED AS A FUEL FOR COOKING FOOD. WHEN BIOGAS IS BURNED IN A GAS STOVE , IT PRODUCES A LOT OF HEAT . THIS HEAT IS USED FOR COOKING FOOD AND FOR OTHER DOMESTIC HEATING PUPOSES. BIOGAS IS A GOOD DOMESTIC FUEL BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWING REASONS :-

a ) biogas burns without somke and does not cause air pollution.

b) biogas it is used for lighting.

c) biogas is used as a fuel to run engines.

d) biogas is used for generating electricity.

e) it is a renewable source of energy .
