⛤ The Making of Newspapers ⛤
The world is at our doorstep in the form of a newspaper every morning, much before most of us are awake.
A newspaper has a shelf life of barely twenty four hours, after which it is piled into a corner as trash, but there are people who work all day and night to bring that newspaper to you. Gathering Information is the first step in printing a newspaper .This is collected through two main sources-news reporters and news agencies.Newspapers with a wide publication network have offices set up in several cities within a country or in other countries.
Newspapers cannot have reporters in every part of the world so they rely on news agencies such as United Press International , Associated Press and Reuters. These agencies collect information from reporters all over the world and relay it via computers and satellites to newspapers that subscribe to them.
The editor at the newspaper come selects the news to be printed and makes changes to the selected news for better readability. The proof-readers check for errors.
Photographers accompanying news reporters or newspapers get photographs from the news agencies. The picture editor decides which picture is best and how to it on the page.
The newspapers have a certain deadline by which they must be printed in order for them to reach on time. The printed papers are bundled and loaded and to trucks and carried to distribution points from where they are picked up by newspaper agents who deliver the paper to individual homes.
The advent of computer has greatly changed the way newspapers are made today. Reporters use the email to send their story instantly to the newspaper office, Tools such as the 'Spell checker' and the 'Thesaurus' aid the editor. Articles, advertisements or photographs on a page can be shuffled around and the best layout selected.
Today, news is available on the electronic media and can be read anytime, anywhere.
So, will the morning newspaper become obsolete in years to come ?
