Answer:

1.The hydrogen gas does not change the dry blue litmus paper because the gas is unable to disassociate its ions when the paper is dry and the red litmus paper stays red in color because hydrogen gas is acidic in nature. If the blue litmus paper is moistened then it may change into red.

2.ammonia gas, which is alkaline, turns red litmus paper blue. Chemical reactions other than acid-base can also cause a color change to litmus paper. For instance, chlorine gas turns blue litmus paper white – the litmus dye is bleached, because of presence of hypochlorite ions.

3.When a blue litmus paper turns red, what it indicates is that the compound that comes in contact with the litmus paper is acidic. When carbon dioxide, one of the major products of combustion, reacts with water in the moist blue litmus paper, it turns into carbonic acid

4. the litmus dye is bleached, because of presence of hypochlorite ions. This reaction is irreversible, so the litmus is not acting as an indicator in this situation
