Auxins promote stem elongation, inhibit growth of lateral buds (maintains apical dominance). They are produced in the stem, buds, and root tips. Example: Indole Acetic Acid (IA). Auxin is a plant hormone produced in the stem tip that promotes cell elongation.

The function of auxin are as follows:-

1) It causes cell elongation

2) It helps in callus culture (plant tissue culture ) .

3) Auxin move away from light so it control phototropic movement of root and shoot.

4) It causes apical dominance and break the apical dormancy but causes lateral dormancy.

5 ) It induces flowering and fruiting in plant

6) It enhances sweetness of the fruit

7 ) It increase rate of aerobic respiration, transpiration and translation ( protein synthesis )

8) It induces femaleness in plants
