The metallic hydride is formed when a metal reacts with hydrogen which has an oxidation number of -1.

Like Calcium Hydride whose molecular formula is CaH2 or aluminum hydride with molecular formula AlH3.

They are popularly known as compounds and the hydrogen either exists as diatomic entities or atoms.
