Cacao swollen-shoot virus (CSSV) is a plant virus of pathogenic group and belongs to  the family Caulimoviridae that primarily attacks and infects cacao trees.

It decreases cacao yield remarkably by the firstone  year of infection, and usually kills the entire  tree within a few couple of  years.

Symptoms widely varies  byextent of strain, but leaf discoloration, stem and root swelling, and die-back generally observed. The virus is transmitted from tree to tree by  means of mealybug vectors.
