Similarly, bears and monkeys are trained by the 'Madaris' for dancing and showing acrobatics at the instruction of their master. Mahouts are the people who drive elephants and train them. They use chains and hooks (ankush) etc to handle and train them. They give elephant rides to people and earn a small amount of money. Circus people are very much dependent on animals for running their show. Animals such as elephants, monkeys, bears are trained to perform and entertain people in the circus.
