Newton's law of gravitation states that if two bodies with mass M1 and M2 are kept at a distance R then the force acting between them is directly proportional to the product of their masses and proportional to the square of the distance between them .

F dirctly proportional to M1*M2 ... (1)

F inversely proportional to R^2 ... (2)

From eqation (1) and equation (2) we get

F directly proportional to M1*M2/R^2

F=G*M1*M2/R2. (removing proportionality sign by G)

where G is gravitational constant =6.67 *10^-11 N Kg m^-2.
