The application of both are same. Still,
Advantage- Electromagnets are more powerful. Their power can be increased by increasing the turns of coil and putting in metallic cores. Also, they don't lose their magnetic property over a period of time like bar magnets.
Disadvantage- They can't be used without a source of potential energy (ie electricity).
