One major reason was that Bengal was situated very much towards the coast and it was difficult for the British to control the whole of India from Bengal.. And since Delhi is situated around the center of India, it made easy for the British to control the whole of India from Delhi and hence the capital of India was shifted from Bengal to Delhi in 1911..
